My teen, ruby had 2 stays at muir wood. The first 30 days, the second, was about a year and a half later and was 90 days. They had tried 2 other residential programs in between. Now, 9 months after their last discharge they continue to do much much better with continued work on my part, their part and the help of community providers. Ruby had a very positive experience overall both times. It takes work and commitment on the parent’s and kid’s part no matter what. No program is perfect but I do believe Ruby received high quality care from providers who actually cared. Many programs make lots of promises and. Just don’t deliver. Muir wood was a transformational experience for ruby and I think the experience of being part of a community of peers was especially helpful. I’m a mental health professional myself and have already recommended the parent to friends who have teens that are struggling.

Our son was helped by the Muir Wood program. He was there for 45 days – working hard to learn and improve, and then had a setback where he then received additional support for several weeks. He came out much better than when he went in. We are appreciative of all the efforts Muir Wood has made in developing their program, and to the people there (professionals and general staff) who all provided their care and support.

This program saved my son. The staff are all caring, patient and understanding. The treatment team was so amazing and helped my son to build his confidence and develop healthy coping skills. I can not thank them enough for all they have done for our family!

My daughter had experience with another facility prior to coming to Muirwood. What a difference! Muirwood staff was caring, they communicated regularly, and they worked to help her with her co-existing disorders. The admissions process was easy, they verified insurance and they made all expectations clear right away. They saved my daughter’s life! I highly recommend their girls dual diagnosis program!

Overall, I was very pleased with my teen’s experience at Muir Woods. The admissions process was easy and the billing group were great at working with us and our insurance to ensure my teen was able to receive the care they needed. They received excellent care from the staff and providers at Muir Woods. They were even able to help my teen understand the root cause of some of their issues.
My only frustrations was in the communication between the care providers and me as a parent. It was very difficult to get in touch with people regarding med changes and coordination of care. At one point, my teen was started on a new medication without the provider discussing this with me first. While the provider acknowledged the error, this is an example of the lack of communication and follow through that was present throughout their stay.
This extended to the discharge planning process as well. The discharge planner, while well-meaning, was very limited in their actual job scope. It fell to me to try to coordinate information sharing between the IOP and providers at Muir Woods to ensure a seamless transition. And even with multiple phone calls, texts, and emails to ensure proper follow-through, I still had to arrange outpatient labs and EKG through my teen’s primary care provider as the provider at Muir Woods never returned any of my communications.
I think some of these issues could be ironed out with the hiring of more support staff or an increased number of care providers. I want to be clear that these hiccups are not a barrier for wanting to seek services at Muir Woods in the future, should we need to.

The staff at Muir supported our 15 year old son with professional expertise and with heart. We are very grateful for all the coping skills our son learned at Muir, and we observe him applying these skills to maintain his sobriety. I highly recommend this treatment center for anyone struggling with teen addiction.

Muir Wood has a truly dedicated team providing services to young people in need. They excel at helping young people identify the root of their issues in a safe and positive environment. I have worked with many families with loved ones going into and coming from Muir wood, and I believe they are one of the best programs in the nation for helping young people.

Outstanding teen treatment center! From the moment we walked through the doors, we felt like part of a supportive community dedicated to helping teens thrive. The staff here are compassionate, knowledgeable, and truly invested in the well-being of every teen in their care. The programs offered are comprehensive and tailored to address the unique needs of each individual, providing a safe space for growth and healing. I highly recommend this center to any parent seeking top-notch care for their teenager.

At the scariest time of our lives my son was able to recover from Psychosis at Muir Wood in Petaluma & has been on a positive path since. It’s exactly what we needed to help stabilize him & are so very grateful for his time there. Thank you to everyone, especially his therapist Lars!!! My only suggestion is to individualize each kids rules to their circumstances/needs. I believe he could’ve had an even better experience there & easier recovery in his mental health had he been able to go on all outings to feel some normalcy again which was direly needed for him.

Our child had medication resistant severe depression. Muir Woods helped find the right medication and provided a supportive environment over covid no less. My child is thriving and we both agree that even though it was a hard period, it was the best choice to get them treatment. The tutors worked with his teachers and he maintained a 4.0 while getting better.
