Ironwood: Residential Treatment Center and Private School for Young Adults
Located on a sprawling rural farm spanning nearly 400 acres of picturesque scenery, Ironwood offers independent residential treatment and education services for young adults aged 13 to 18 who are grappling with addiction and mental health conditions. The facility accommodates up to 45 young adults in a residential program typically lasting 9 to 12 months.
Ironwood employs a step-down approach to treatment for addiction and behavioral health issues, guiding clients through four different levels of structure. Levels 1 and 2 provide highly structured, rule-oriented environments aimed at fostering self-acceptance and respect for oneself and others. In contrast, the Farm House (levels 3 and 4) focuses on nurturing internal character traits such as honesty, integrity, and motivational values. Throughout the program, residents engage in routines designed to promote self-direction, responsibility, and emotional maturity, aligning with Ironwood’s mission.
Afternoons at Ironwood offer a diverse array of activities including equestrian lessons, dog training, art, music, cooking classes, horticulture, hiking, life skills training, team-building exercises, one-on-one tutoring, individual or family therapy, equine-assisted psychotherapy, dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) groups, substance abuse groups, young women’s groups, nutrition groups, and visits from guest mentors. Dinner preparation commences at 4:30 p.m., followed by clean-up and evening chores. Evenings afford students some freedom to choose activities, with quiet time starting at 8:00 p.m. for showers, reading, letter writing, journaling, and bedtime at 9:00 p.m.
Ironwood places significant emphasis on family involvement in the healing process, integrating family counseling into the program along with opportunities for family stays and visits.
The serene campus of Ironwood serves as a sanctuary for young adults to embark on their journey of learning and healing. Farm animals, horses, cats, and dogs add to the nurturing environment, complemented by comfortable accommodations and a caring staff. With numerous positive reviews, Ironwood stands out as an excellent choice for those seeking long-term residential care combined with a fully accredited school program.
