Muir Wood Teen Treatment
Established in 2013, Muir Wood Adolescent and Family Services provides gender-separate residential treatment for teenagers aged 12-17 facing mental health, behavioral, and substance use challenges. With 12 locations across California, each accommodating up to 6 teens, Muir Wood offers personalized care led by full-time double-board-certified psychiatrists, licensed therapists, nursing staff, and an experienced administrative team. Accepting various private insurance plans, including Cigna, Aetna, Anthem Blue Cross, Kaiser, MHN, Magellan, Halcyon, and Optum.
Customized Treatment Approach
Muir Wood initiates treatment with comprehensive psychological assessments and testing. Weekly family intensives, individual therapy sessions, psychiatrist assessments, family support groups twice weekly, and more are integral parts of the program. A dedicated treatment team meets weekly to evaluate progress and adjust treatment plans accordingly. Additionally, Muir Wood integrates experiential and adventure therapies such as hiking, art, music therapy, yoga, and meditation.
Academic Assistance
Muir Wood provides academic support for teens in grades 7-12, collaborating with their home schools to maintain education during treatment. Teens spend over 3 hours in school Monday-Friday, with the option to continue studies online through a virtual track. On-site academic staff facilitate and oversee schoolwork, and Muir Wood’s academic program is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).
Evidence-Based Practices and Family Support
Located just 20 minutes away from Point Reyes National Park and the renowned Muir Woods, Muir Wood offers various recovery-friendly outings and activities, including nature hikes. The campuses boast modern, spacious facilities, with activities such as yoga, meditation, sports, and board games available. Executive chefs prepare three nutritious meals daily, ensuring a supportive environment for recovery and growth.
