South Oaks Hospital

I have, unfortunately, been in several psych hospitals. This is easily the best of them. The groups are varied and actually feel worth attending. The staff are all so nice. The food is palatable. They make sure to give you outdoor time, weather permitting. There’s Netflix there. All the staff seem like they actually want to be there. My name and pronouns have always been respected each time I’ve been here. They even helped paint my nails.

One downside was a doctor trying to blame my mental health issues on taking hrt which, I mean, I’ve had issues way longer than I’ve been on hrt.

If you have to go to a psych hospital, this is the one you want.

My son had a crisis about to weeks ago, and we were at North shore hospital for two days before we got transfer to South Oaks. I started reading the online reviews and I was horrified by what I read. After having a firsthand experience , I have to say those reviews do not do justice to South Oaks. The facility is clean, the people that work there are compassionate, caring, helpful and respectful . I hope this review could help put other parents doubts to ease. I was in the girls unit 2020 into 2021 and it was the best place I probably could’ve been in at the time. There aren’t enough good things that I could say about this place. Although the girls unit was rough and had at least 3 codes called a day, I am so so thankful for this place. You really have to stay optimistic about getting better and you truly will. I was in such a dark place and connecting with the staff was honestly what helped me most. I went from feeling so unloved and not cared for and felt like I was worthless to them PROVING to me that I wasn’t. They became my family and I still think of them every single day. I was there for 3 months the first time and second, and I bonded with not only the staff but some of the girls who I continue to stay in contact with over two years later. Obviously there are issues time to time, but overall my experience was beyond amazing. I would list all of them if I could but the list would go on forever. ALL of the staff stay in my mind everyday and will forever have a huge special spot in my heart. I love you all so much and thank you for saving my life.

My son I quick to express any dislikes about anything and everyone. This place changed him with full improvement. He always told me how nice they were and the handling with structure helped him understand the difference between his daily responsibilities and knowing that the luxury he likes is to be earned: a book can available but television is not a necessity. They found the proper medication for him and my baby has been doing exceptionally well. They did a full 180 with his mental health and behavior. Whomever had a bad experience was probably at a different unit. As far as my experience I will say they helped my baby and he has no complaints ( he will always make it known if anyone messed him)

It has been years since since I was a patient at south oaks. I have only great things to share about it. I was a adolescent/ young adult at the time and I was going through a very, very difficult time in my life. All of the staff made me feel very welcomed and each and everyone of them that worked there down to even the custodians were very professional and caring. The place was always very clean and the food was excellent. The atmosphere did not feel like a jail and the nurses and counselors were always on point with my medical care. The group’s were even excellent and structured and everyone actually parts. I’m going to be honest if it wasn’t for south oaks and it’s wonderful staff I would not be were I am today. I productive member of society and live life on lives terms and I am honestly proud to say I am a alumni. Thank you

I was Recently at this Psychiatric Center For 2 weeks. I Recently had the Pleasure of having an Amazing Nurse Practioner as my Provider who cared For me at South Oaks, NY Psychiatric Center For the past 2 weeks From today. Her Name was Caitlin Randazzo, NP. She was assertive, bright, caring, and overall Tremendously warm hearted in her Entire demeanor while she was Treating me that I honestly Could Not Give her more of a Higher Rating than I am doing Now. She is outstanding and a True gift From God. She is Truly a Blessing For Anyone who Needs a Time out From Life and to have someone who can Truly Listen to them. Thank you So Much Caitlyn as your Caring Heart contributed to my overall Current Amazing well being I have now. Overall, this hospital was very good in Terms of Cleanliness with a Caring overall staff.

The Staff along with Dr Hoque are at NE2 done an amazing job. Everyone was attentive, caring and responsive. I was very happy with their work. They care, very nice and professional. I was initially worried by reading some negative reviews. But I was very pleased.

I have been trying for over a month to retrieve the belongings of a former patient of South Oakes. Nothing can be found. Prescription glasses, clothes, a jacket, shoes, all gone. Phone calls not returned, or if I get through to a human being, they are rude, uncaring, and unprofessional. To the person walking around in that nice LLBean jacket, you are pond scum.

My son is admitted to this hospital for a week last month. I thank all the specialist who work with him and Ms. Tracy, Ms. Willox and to all the staff members. Thank you South Oaks for the best service and for continuing following up my son progress keep up a good job 👏 👍❤ I highly recommended this place the best.My Son love the food and games.

I just visited my mom today 2-15-24. 2-3pm. she is much better condition Than ever. I’m glad they brought her to here. when i read the review i was little worried Because she don’t speak any English at all. but now I’m relieved，hopefully she can fully recover This week. Social workers Christine was great help！
